Inspired by the world of L. Frank Baum’s iconic books, Dee & Friends in Oz is an animated preschool musical adventure which follows Dorothy “Dee” Davis.
When Dee’s book unlocks a portal to the wonderful, whimsical, and magical World of Oz, she’ll soon learn that this story needs a hero. In a journey to rescue Oz and bring magic back to the land, Dee will meet new friends, defy expectations, and do things she never dreamed she could do. And of course, she’ll rewrite the story of Oz… with herself as its hero!
Created by Emmy-winner Angela C. Santomero, and developed by Emmy-nominated writers Halcyon Person and Keion Jackson, the series is directed by Declan Doyle (Get Rolling with Otis, Doc McStuffins) in our Brown Bag Films Dublin studio with animation services by our Bali studio.
The stellar voice cast of Dee & Friends in Oz features Tony Award winner LaChanze (The Color Purple 2006 stage production, Disney’s Hercules), doing double-duty as both Dee’s Grandma and Miss Emerald, the beloved teacher at The School of Oz.
Tony Award-winner James Monroe Iglehart (Broadway’s Aladdin, Hamilton; Prime Video’s Hazbin Hotel) stars as not-so-tough teddy bear, Stuffley. In addition to composing the show’s music, Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter Tarriona “Tank” Ball (Tank and the Bangas) also voice stars as the fun and fabulous villain, Miss Ruby.
The voice cast also includes bright young talents Layla Capers as the titular Dee; Sevien Desuyo as Skylar/Scarecrow; Judah Edwards as Quentin/Tin; Sid Kamat as Rohan/Lion; Isabella Velasquez as Emilia/Eastyn; Lumi Pollack as Wanessa/Westyn; and a host of others.
The launch of Dee and Friends in Oz signals a milestone for the iconic Oz property, marking the first-time the beloved IP has ever been adapted and reimagined in a series format for a preschool audience.
The show made its global debut on Netflix on February 5, 2024.
