Brown Bag Films Brings ‘Millie Fleur Saves the Night’ to Life

The Emmy®-winning animation studio teams up with Scholastic for new book teaser series!
We’re proud to share one of the latest projects to grow out of our integration with Scholastic — the weird and wonderful animated book trailer for Millie Fleur Saves the Night.
This garden adventure began when Scholastic teamed up with Brown Bag Films to create an animated, character-driven book teaser to bring Millie Fleur’s weird and wonderful world to cinematic life and help build excitement and awareness for this enchanting series. It features the recently released Millie Fleur Saves the Night and the original New York Times bestseller Millie Fleur's Poison Garden both written and illustrated by Christy Mandin.
“Scholastic Trade Marketing produces book trailers throughout the year to help support the launch of their many titles,” said Coral Schoug, VP Production, Brown Bag Films (Canada). Our studio is known for producing high quality animation across all our many projects, including service, co-productions and IP driven shows. We’ve already been working closely with Scholastic to help bring their books into animated series, and as our integration deepens, we’re discovering exciting new ways to collaborate. Expanding into book trailers felt like a natural next step—an opportunity to build on our robust animation capabilities and create fresh entry points for audiences to discover these incredible stories.”
“We had a great launching pad with the world Christy built. Using our knowledge of series building — and making intentional choices like elevating with score — really helped make Millie its own.”

On the production side, the new Millie Fleur trailer project was led by Brown Bag Films’ Cory Bobiak, Creative Director (Toronto). The creative team used author Christy Mandin’s artwork to take audiences back to the book’s beloved Garden Glen setting. In this new story, the main character Millie must convince her new neighbors NOT to be afraid of the enchanting things that can only be glimpsed in the dark.
“We had a great launching pad with the world Christy built. Using our knowledge of series building — and making intentional choices like elevating with score — really helped make Millie its own.” said Coral Schoug.
“Each illustration offered so much room to play in. It was very intuitive how Millie should move and act in the world, and bringing her to life was very rewarding for everyone.”
The collaboration between Scholastic’s Trade Marketing team and Brown Bag Films was a great success, resulting in a trailer that’s both enticing and emotionally resonant. The animation captured the story’s tone and message, while a custom-composed score elevated the overall impact. Our team had a fantastic time contributing to this piece—and we look forward to bringing more stories to screen through projects like this in the future.
The new Millie Fleur Saves the Night teaser is being used to promote the book, which was released in July 2025, across YouTube, social media channels, and on Disney+ and Hulu.
