This weekend our Technical Director and certified Toon Boom Master, Jason Lin took part in the first ever Toon Boom Career Camp. The camp was a weekend long event in Toronto, full of inspiring keynotes, educational breakouts, and networking opportunities. It also connected camp goers with local animation professionals and educators, and taught key Toon Boom focused strategies and skills, needed for success in a rapidly evolving industry.

This was the first time Toon Boom has run one of these camps, and it was a huge success. The event was sold out, with attendees from all over the GTA, and some travelling from as far away as Washington D.C. It was a packed house!

Jason helped facilitate an ‘educational breakout’ focused on Toon Boom’s latest version of the Harmony software, Harmony 15, to a class of 65 people. This learning session was essentially a beginner’s guide to the robust software. He and his fellow teaching experts were on hand to help camp goers’—who ranged for students to industry professionals—during the interactive introductory class.

Jason also spoke about his career path to becoming a Technical Director in animation, and how we here at Brown Bag Films Toronto, use Harmony in our animation production pipeline. Jason also told the story about how he became a certified Toon Boom Master; spoiler alert, it involves a 9-year collaborative working relationship with the Toon Boom team!

The next Toon Boom Career Camp will take place in Vancouver at the Vancouver Film School, on March 17 - 18, 2018.

We are also excited to share that Jason will be bringing a specialized version of the Harmony “educational breakouts” to our team here at Brown Bag Films Toronto, in the form of interactive Lunch and Learns, focusing on cut outs, rigging and SFX, using the resources via the Toon Boom learning portal.
