Earlier this May our Brown Bag Recruitment Team attended the annual Sheridan College and the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design, Industry Day to meet with up-and-coming animation talent and check out the final projects from this year’s graduates.

Our team also had the wonderful privilege of selecting three graduates from the Bachelor of Animation Program to honour with some very special Brown Bag sponsored Awards. It was a very tough decision, as the caliber of work was set to high across the board, and we would like to congratulate all of this year’s graduates on their amazing final projects.

Here are the winners our team selected to take home the Brown Bag sponsored awards, along with some words from the artists themselves about their incredible work.

Best 2D Animation – Korobushka by Patt Jewanarom

My full name is Rapeepat Jewanarom, I'm an international student from Chiang Mai, Thailand. One of my goal is to continue to push my skills in 2D hand-drawn animation, which I grew to love through my years in Sheridan. I have a fond memory of classical animation from the 1990s/early 2000s, which has been a great source of inspiration for my film's style. This award means a lot to me, and I feel encouraged that people saw potential in me. Thank you again for this award. I am excited to strive for more knowledge after graduation and to pursue my desires of working in 2D animated features. - Patt Jewanarom

Most Promising Director - Hey Bob by Emily Millard

I'd just like to say a very big THANK YOU to you and to everyone from Brown Bag Films who came out to industry day and liked my film enough to give it a prize! I still can't believe that this little film, that I basically made for my brother, resonated with so many people. I'm so grateful that you chose me over the stiff competition that was my talented classmates. I've never really thought of myself as a “director” before—mostly just as a kid who makes silly short films, but your confidence in my potential abilities has flared up a confidence in myself re: my skills. I really appreciate that! I hope to make you proud with my future projects. Thanks again!! - Emily Millard

Best Production Design – Mykola by Anastasiia Platoshyna

I am very grateful for such a generous award as Best Production Design from Brown Bag Films. It was truly a wonderful surprise! Receiving such a significant award for my film, “Mykola” is a great encouragement to further work on personal stories that incorporate cultural aspects and influences. I always wanted to tell a story inspired by the culture of the country I am from and knowing that it had such an impact is very motivational.The look of my film is heavily influenced by Eastern European motifs, to be more specific, Ukrainian imagery with a storybook twist to the visuals. I am incredibly humbled by the award and I deeply appreciate the recognition. Thank you so much once again! - Anastasiia Platoshyna
