New Children’s Laureate #EoinColfer

Two years ago we were celebrating with President Michael D. Higgins as he announced Niamh Sharkey as the new Laureate na NÓg; Ireland's Laureate for children's literature.

The highest honour in children's books, the prestigious Laureate na NÓg role was established to highlight the importance of children's literature in Ireland's cultural life and to engage young people with chldren's literature.

Niamh's two years are over… and this morning we met the NEW children's laureate!

Best known as the creative and comedic genius behind Artemis Fowl - Eoin has written more than thirty books for both children and adults.

Eoin was the new voice of Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy in 2009 and his new series WARP is taking the world by storm. Eoin follows Niamh's passion for storytelling and imagination - and with the promise of an Artemis Fowl movie in the works, this will be a busy term as Children's Laureate!

Prepare for a tenure crammed with laughter and passion!

If that wasn't enough - check out The Guardian's celebration of Niamh's work last week!
