Here Comes Halloween #Sketch

Today's #Sketch with a spooky Halloween themed twist created by our Bali studio Senior Texture Artist, Fierrany Halita, gives us a peek at some Indonesian style ghosts!

Fierrany: I chose to illustrate Indonesian version of ghosts for Halloween (in cute visuals).

Tuyul are known as bald playful kids who love to steal money. Then we have Sundel Bolong, a long-haired girl usually wearing a white robe. The next one is Pocong, known as a wrapped ghost. Next, we have Genderuwo, big ape like figures that usually have messy hair, various legends say that Genderuwo can change their form into a human. And lastly, we have Kuntilanak. The digital painting was made using Adobe Photoshop CC and Wacom Bamboo.

I started with a sketch using basic shapes and silhouettes to set the composition and make sure the ghosts look cute but that people still recognize their real form. Then I decided on which color palette to use, I started blocking each silhouette with cool colour combinations to create a ghostly atmosphere.

After the blocking process was done, I got into details like shading and highlights. The most fun part was adding the glow effect using big blurry brushes and playing with the blending modes in Photoshop. It feels like using a magic wand!
