Brown Bag Films was delighted to take part in The Irish Times Higher Options last month. This involved not one but two members of our amazing Brown Bag Films team joining panel discussions throughout the three-day expo.
Higher Options is Ireland's biggest annual education expo for second level students (5th year, TY and 6th year) and takes place in the RDS Simmonscourt, Dublin. It gives the opportunity for young students to connect directly with third level colleges and universities and ask any questions which will be answered directly by college representatives. It also features talks from industry experts, to offer insights and tips on how students can prepare themselves for their dream career – which is where Brown Bag Films comes in!
On September 21st, 2D Animation Supervisor at Brown Bag Films, Lynne Guthrie stepped into the 'Careers in Media' panel led by Education Columnist at The Irish Times, Brian Mooney. They were also joined by Cecilia Munroe, Principal at Ballyfermot College of Further Education. Lynne shared her inspiring journey from college graduate to Brown Bag Films Intern, and finally to her current role. She was a big hit with the students who were lining up to ask questions after the discussion!
Managing Director at Brown Bag Films and COO at 9 Story Media Group, Cathal Gaffney joined the same 'Careers in Media' Talk on September 22nd. Cecilia Munro featured on the panel again along with Ronan O' Muirthile, IADT Head of Faculty Film, Art and Creative Technologies. During the discussion, Cathal highlighted the opportunities within the animation industry which are available to students of all interests:
'There's a role for everyone in animation, from code writers to accounting. It's very rewarding to find work in such a creative environment'
We loved that Brown Bag Films was able to team up with Higher Options 2022 and hope it inspires many young students to consider a career in the wonderful world of animation!
