Celebrating 10 Years of Doc McStuffins!

Saturday, 18th April, saw the last episode of Doc McStuffins air on Disney! It's been an incredible and wonderful journey for us working with Doc McStuffins Creator Chris Nee, the exceptional team at Disney and, of course, our Brown Bag crew, all of whom helped to bring Doc and her world to life. And while Doc McStuffins has been on the air for a whopping, can you believe it—8 years, having premiered on March 23, 2012, on Disney Channel and Disney Junior, it's been a 10 year journey for us from start to finish!

We wanted to take this opportunity to look back over those 10 years and share some of our greatest Doc McStuffins highlights with you all. Take a trip down memory lane with us:

"We Are Doc McStuffins"

“We Are Doc McStuffins”

We could never have imagined the impact Doc McStuffins would have on young kids AND grownups around the globe. Within 11 months of its premiere, the series went so far as to inspire a medical movement, “We Are Doc McStuffins”, amongst African-American female doctors in the U.S. which was spearheaded by real-life physician and subsequent co-founder of Artemis Medical Society, Dr. Myiesha Taylor.

Dr. Taylor discovered Doc McStuffins while looking for shows for her four-year-old daughter. She stumbled upon Doc McStuffins, and following some of the rave reviews on her Facebook page, inspired the above “We Are Doc McStuffins” collage, which she sent off to Disney as a gesture of thanks and support.

As the collage itself went viral, she saw the seeds of a movement and came to co-found the Artemis Medical Society, an organization whose mission “is to serve, nurture and celebrate a global sisterhood of women physicians of color.”

Doc's mom was, in fact, named 'Dr. Myiesha McStuffins' in tribute to Dr. Myiesha Taylor!

Doc McStuffins Fanmail, Love and Support

Our Doc fans are truly wonderful! We have been thrilled to be on the receiving end of such beautiful fanart for Doc. And over the years, we've really felt the love and support for Doc McStuffins grow to beyond anything we could have hoped for.

There have been so many inspiring stories that have tugged at our heartstrings and filled us with immense pride at being a part of something that has resonated so deeply with so many people. One such story we came across was that of four-year-old Noa who requested to dress up and do a school report on Bessie Coleman, the first woman of African American descent to hold a pilots license, whom she was introduced to while watching an episode of Doc McStuffins! Her work was so impressive that the National Aviation Hall of Fame flew Noa and her family to Ohio to meet Bessie Coleman's great-niece, Gigi Coleman!

There was also that time in 2016, when the #RenewDocMcStuffins hashtag trend, started by sociopolitical comedian W. Kamau Bell, blew up on Twitter and resulted in the greenlighting of the 5th season!

Doc McStuffins Meets MICHELLE OBAMA!

...repeat, Doc McStuffins has met First Lady Michelle Obama! In the episode, “Doc McStuffins Goes to Washington”, Doc and the toys travelled to Washington D.C. to meet the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, and Doc is appointed the official toy doctor of the White House! Does it get any better than this?

Doc and the Gang Meet Winnie the Pooh

In a special cross-over episode, entitled “Into the Hundred Acre Wood!”, the gang from McStuffinsville and the Hundred Acre Wood bandy together to help none other than the world's most beloved, honey-loving bear, Winnie the Pooh! Voiced by none other than the legendary Jim Cummings himself.

Doc McStuffins Enters the World of Pop Culture!

It didn't take very long for Doc McStuffins to enter the mainstream pop culture lexicon! From sitcoms like Parks and Recreation and Brooklyn Nine-Nine to trivia shows like Jeopardy!, we were tickled every time we saw our favourite toy doctor pop up unexpectedly. There was even that time Lambie made an appearance as a toy in an episode of True Blood!

Doc McStuffins has been nominated for over 46 awards and has garnered 22 wins, including the prestigious Peabody Award, two Kidscreen Awards and multiple NAACP Image Awards. And while we don't do it for the awards, it certainly makes us incredibly proud to see Doc receive such incredible industry recognition.

We Love You Doc McStuffins

Over the years, we've been nothing short of truly blown away by all the love for Doc McStuffins and we couldn't put it any better than creator of Doc McStuffins Chris Nee:

“Making Doc and accepting the talent and dedication of so many people along the way has been the greatest gift of all.”
