Marty: I spent quite a while trying to figure out the clouds. It was so much fun!

I ran through references, tons of actual photos of different clouds with different light, thickness, shapes…

It’s fascinating how light travels through billows of vapor, creating different effects on the shadow side of the cloud shape, as in rim light or backlight.

I’ve always loved watching the sky, but it’s very different when you’re trying to paint it.
