OFFSET 2016 Highlights #Recap

OFFSET, one of the creative highlights of our year, took place over the weekend and we were once again thouroughly inspired and entertained by the fantastic line-up of speakers who shared their experiences in the industry with us!

We thought we'd jot down some of our favourite bits, while it's all still fresh in our memories, so check out a recap of our highlights from this year below!

But first check out the opening title sequences for this year, created by Piranha Bar:

Now for the highlights…

We were treated to a whole host of designers, digital artists, illustrators and creative agencies this year, kicking off with designer Stephen Kelleher opening the event with an inspiring talk on the progression of his work from design and motion design to photography and the importance of asking yourself why you are doing things.

The quirky duo from Reed + Rader gave a vibrant, cat-filled presentation on their backgrounds and their journeys to becoming digital artists and how they balance their work and life… and also their love of cats, of course.

4Creative showed us how sometimes you have to “make it wrong” first in order to get it right!

Start somewhere negative. Look for the wrong answer. Not the right one. You'll be guaranteed to be somewhere different.”

The irreverent illustrator and rapper extraordinaire, Mr. Bingo, showed us how some hate mail garnered him a whole lot of love online! And also gave indepth instructions on how to make a rap video.

Illustrator/Animator Andy Ristiano showed us his early sketchbooks and how the artwork he loved as a kid later influenced his work as an adult.

We were thrilled to see some of his character design concepts and background work for the Adventure Time series. And also a series of his personal work drawing characters in groups he calls clumps.

And then finally to cap off the event, typographer/designer Seb Lester, wowed us with some clips of his calligraphy work and how far his typography has ventured - hint* it's out of this world!

Check out his logo design for the NASA Space Mission - Surface Water & Ocean Topography (SWOT)!

He ended his presentation and summed up the weekend with the statement “Believe in yourself”, we couldn't agree more!

Thank you to all the crew of OFFSET for setting up another knock-out event!

Looking forward to next year already!
