'Tis the season for festive #sketches! And today's one comes from Lead 3D Animator Tony Moore who hails from New Zealand! But first a little geography lesson…
Tony: If you dug straight through the earth in Dublin you would come out just below New Zealand.
So Christmas in New Zealand is a little different to Christmas in Ireland, as it's the middle of our summer. It's all about BBQ's, beaches, ice-cream and sunscreen, doing dive-bombs off cliffs into rivers, playing backyard cricket and picking prickles out of your feet, keeping cool with blow-up swimming pools that never last more than one summer, camping and long road trips seeing friends and relatives.
I decided to make a Christmas card to represent what Christmas in New Zealand was like for me growing up in the 90's.
We would cram our lives into our 1981 Subaru Leone station wagon and head out on a massive two-week road trip around the land of the long white cloud delivering and collecting presents from relatives and friends.
My father would try and keep the peace between my siblings and myself by constantly stopping for real fruit ice-cream and educating us by blasting The Doors.
My mother would fall asleep and her glasses would hang off her head, I would egg my dad on to swerve the car back and forth till they fell off.
My sister would be taking photos of everything and anything on her disposable cameras.
My brother would be doing something to endanger his and my life and as the youngest, I would be forced into the middle seat, but at least I had my Game Boy!
I'm thoroughly looking forward to my first WINTER Christmas in the upside down land of Ireland. Murry Chrustmus!!
