Today's #FanArt is a beautiful take on the character of Dolly Levi portrayed by the iconic Barbra Streisand in 'Hello, Dolly!'
This is courtesy of our Manchester-based 2D Artist, Lisa Hayward! Lisa's attention to detail and beautiful colour palette have us coveting Dolly's luxurious attire.
Lisa: A dear friend of mine introduced me to the 1969 film adaptation of 'Hello Dolly!' It’s one of her favourite musicals, so I created this framed 3 piece collection for her birthday last year.
It was also a personal project for me to learn how to use the pen tool in Photoshop. I sketched out my roughs then completed all Dolly’s outlines (save for the feathers in her hats) with the pen tool.
I’d always admired the costumes from the movie, but it wasn’t until I was painting the details
tricky for me.
I used lots of screenshots from the Blu-ray edition of the film for reference. That led me to choose the 3 main costumes Barbra Streisand performs in. I found they had the most dialogue, singing and dancing and to me represented all three acts of the film.
