GearrScannain: New Irish Website to Focus on Home-grown Shorts

We were delighted here at Brown Bag films to see Anya’ being featured on GearrScannain, a brand new website showcasing home-grown short films!

Anyone with an interest of film will already be aware of the Scannain website. Started in 2009 as a personal blog to talk about films in Ireland, 5 years later it has grown to become one of Ireland's largest independent film websites and a recognised resource for news on Irish and international film. Recently focus has morphed from talking about the latest Hollywood blockbusters to providing news and insight on Irish productions and Irish talent abroad.

Always quick to spot a trend, Scannain noticed a major increase in the number of short films being released in Ireland over the last few years. Many of these films have gone on to achieve considerable success on the film festival circuit, with numerous Oscar nominations and high profile wins for Ireland. Given that Ireland is now recognised as a world leader in short film format, Scannain decided it was high time for a new dedicated sub-site for Irish short film content and GearrScannain was born.

GearrScannain hopes to become a hub for these films, with information on festivals, shorts in development, cast and crew opportunities, financing, and more. They also have plans to incorporate an Irish short film database which will feature information on the cast and crew of the films, festival screenings and awards, posters, images, trailers, and the full film when available.
