‘Ada Twist, Scientist’ and ‘Ridley Jones’ Nominated in the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards

The 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards Nominees have been announced and we are thrilled to see both Ada Twist, Scientist and Ridley Jones nominated in the Outstanding Children’s Programming category!

Ada Twist, Scientist and Ridley Jones have been nominated alongside Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City (Netflix), Bossy Bear (Nick Jr.), Firebuds (Disney Jr.), Monster High (Nickelodeon), Pinecone & Pony (AppleTV+), Princess Power (Netflix), Summer Camp Island (Cartoon Network), and Work It Out Wombats! (PBS Kids).

Ada Twist, Scientist, which is based on the best-selling children's book series by author Andrea Beaty and illustrator David Roberts, was developed for TV by executive producer Chris Nee (Laughing Wild), Wonder Worldwide, and produced in partnership with President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions, with animation done by our awesome teams at Brown Bag Films Dublin and Bali. The series follows the adventures of 8-year-old Ada Twist, a pint-sized scientist with a giant-sized curiosity, who aspires to discover the truth about absolutely everything, now with four seasons streaming on Netflix.

The show has been nominated for its Season 4, 11th episode titled “Blue River Wedding” which follows the story of how when a tornado touches down on the day of Sensei Dave and Jiu Jitsu Joe's wedding, the gang must think up a way for all of the guests to safely gather.

Ridley Jones, another of our Netflix preschool series from acclaimed creator Chris Nee, which follows six-year-old Ridley who, alongside her mother and grandmother, is a protector of the museum she calls home. Keeping the exhibits safe takes a real hero, especially when the lights go out and the exhibits — from Egyptian mummies to stampeding elephants — come to life! Throughout her many adventures, Ridley finds that being a good protector, and leader, is about finding common ground and respecting others, no matter what our differences might be.

The series features a diverse range of characters including LGBTQ+ regulars like Ismat's two fathers, who are also both Mummies, voiced by Chris Colfer and Andrew Rannells, and the groundbreaking character of Fred the bison, the first nonbinary series regular on a Netflix preschool show, voiced by nonbinary actor Iris Menas (West Side Story).

Five seasons of Ridley Jones have been brought to screen by our fantastic team across Brown Bag Films Dublin and Bali studios.

The GLAAD Media Awards honor media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the LGBTQ community and the issues that affect their lives. Since its inception in 1990, the GLAAD Media Awards have grown to be the most visible annual LGBTQ awards show in the world, sending powerful messages of acceptance to audiences globally.

We are thrilled to see both Ada Twist, Scientist and Ridley Jones nominated, and extend a special shout-out to our partners at Netflix, Chris Nee (Laughing Wild) and Higher Ground Productions. And a huge shout out to our talented teams across both series as well as our incredible audiences for their amazing support since the launch of both shows.

The GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies will take place in Los Angeles on March 14, 2024 and in New York City on May 11, 2024.
