Project Tango : 3D Scanning #Innovate

We've been experimenting with new 3D technology - in rendering, printing as well as animation - so Google's Project Tango announcement on Thursday has us excited!

Project Tango is a smartphone with a built-in 3D sensor - developed in collaboration with universities, research labs, and industrial partners from across the world. Pulling research from robotics and computer vision from over a decade and creating the first prototype:

It gets bigger, and better.

Matterport are already developing on a Tango demo and let the first look of their work go public. Have a look at their first mobile sensor 3D model:

While Matterport are developing a larger scale 3D sensor camera for professional use - they're also working on applying their software to mobile devices. You can explore the mobile created model yourself here.

Needless to say, we're excited about how future applications of 3D tech in the real world will impact on how we create and tell stories in 3D and animation.
