Winter Warmers #StaffPicks

It's cold and blustery outside so we're going to settle in, get comfortable and catch up on some winter shorts. Grab yourself a hot chocolate and join us!

Here are some of our staffpicks for the winter season, including our own 23 Degrees 5 Minutes:

Fear of Flying

A bird with a fear of flying tries to avoid heading South for the winter. Written and directed by Conor Finnegan.

Premier Automne

Abel lives in the winter and Apolline lives in the summer. Isolated in their “natures”, they never met each other. They are not even supposed to meet. So when Abel crosses the border and discovers Apolline, curiosity is overwhelming. Their encounter soon becomes more complicated than they could imagine. Both of them will have to learn compromise to protect the other…  Directed by Carlos De Carvalho and Aude Danset.

The Missing Scarf

A black comedy exploring some of life's common fears: fear of the unknown, of failure, rejection and finally the fear of death. Directed by Eoin Duffy and narrated by George Takei!

Redesigning Christmas

In this short vignette, the anxious young protagonist from the Oscar shortlised 'Me and My Moulton' looks on as her architect parents re-design Christmas. The tree, presents, and cake are all re-made in simple, clean lines using the principles of good design. But will Santa be able to get through the contemporary chimney on the family’s flat-roofed home? By Torill Kove.

23 Degrees 5 Minutes

An old explorer close to freezing in the Arctic re-lives the events that have brought him there. He recalls his student days at Trinity College in Dublin when he studied under the enigmatic Professor Orit, the professor who was driven to madness by his obsessive pursuit of the unified theory. Convinced that the answer somehow lay in the relationship between the numbers two, three and five, Professor Orit's obsession started the journey which has led his former student to the top of the world.

Directed by Darragh O'Connell, featuring the voice talents of John Hurt and Stuart Townsend and produced by Colm Tyrrell, the film was scripted by Darragh O'Connell based on a short story by Austin Kenny.
