Research what studios are actively recruiting for. There are more job roles in a studio than what many people expect, and specifically targeting one of these positions can be more fruitful than a general application.

To get a sense of the different job positions available you can subscribe to recruitment newsletters like creativeheads.net and browse around the jobs section of different studios. The dneg.com and framestore.com jobs pages are very good.

Pay special attention to the “Responsibilities” and “Job Description” sections, so you know what is expected. You might notice some recurring patterns in what companies look for which will help direct your focus.
