Having good communication is really important, especially with the director as you will be bouncing ideas back and forth and trying out various cuts, so being able to understand/relay that information is key.

In terms of advice for animation editing, always keep in mind what the end result will look like. Try to imagine how your characters will act/move within the set and time out your shots accordingly.
