When working on animation a piece, reference is absolutely crucial, get your hands on some footage and flip through it frame by frame. It will become pretty apparent where you are going wrong.

Also don’t be afraid to act something out, get a buddy to record you. It will not only help with analysing the overall movement but it will give you small nuances that can enhance the believability of your animation or even take you in a new direction.
