Behind-the-Scenes with the Fighting Words team #Jean Hanney

We recently posted some of our behind-the-scenes with the Fighting Words team on their collaboration for the zany short THE STORY WILL BE REVEALED IN THE MOVIE and gave a peak into what was involved in the sound recording, background design and character modelling.

We've got another peak behind-the-scenes for you now, explaining the Brown Bag Films collaboration with the children of Fighting Words from Jean Hanney, Education Co-ordinator at Fighting Words.

Last summer a group of children aged 10-12 came together in the Fighting Words centre to work on the latest collaboration between Fighting Words and Brown Bag Films - The Story Will Be Revealed In The Movie.

The children worked with a team of volunteer tutors to create the characters and write the story of this underwater adventure.

This group were great writers and illustrators and soon the story was taking shape, with a slew of zany characters including an Octocorn, a Moustache King with an army of moustache minions called the Kevins and a Kevina, and Geremina the damsel chair!

The artists from Brown Bag Films then, using the children's story and artwork, helped to bring these characters to life on screen.

You can see more on the processes involved in this in the previous blog posts on Character Modelling, Background Design and Sound Recording!

One of the highlights of the Fighting Words collaboration with Brown Bag Films was our visit to their studio in Smithfield. Here the team of young aspiring animators got to meet with professional artists and animators from the Brown Bag Films team.

The children spent time in the recording studio working hard on making sound effects (there was seaweed involved…) and voicing dialogue. It was brilliant fun!

Check out the Making-Of below:

The Children were delighted to see a screening of The Story Will Be Revealed In The Movie in the Science Gallery for which they were on hand to answer a Q&A afterwards.

Fighting Words is a creative writing centre for children and teenagers, established by Roddy Doyle and Sean Love, and writing for an animated film is one of the numerous creative writing workshops they offer!

Check out their website for details on events and how to get involved!
